DeMarcus Cousins Has Free Agency Meetings Scheduled With 2 Teams

DeMarcus Cousins' free agency might be the most-interesting one to watch moving forward outside of LeBron James. The All-Star big man's market is kind of unknown at this point, money-wise, anyway. Boogie is coming off a torn Achilles and it's unclear how much teams are willing to commit to him.

We do appear to know who the two favorites to land him are, though. Cousins has reportedly been contacted by two NBA teams and plans to meet with them soon.

The Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans both contacted Cousins shortly after midnight.

Cousins could reportedly meet with both of those teams today, but it's unclear if those meetings will take place in person or over the phone.

ESPN has the details:

New Orleans Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins received phone calls from the Pelicans and the Los Angeles Lakers on the first day of NBA free agency on Sunday, a source told ESPN's The Undefeated.

Cousins, a four-time All-Star, could meet with the Pelicans and Lakers on Sunday, but it is uncertain if such meetings would take place in person or over the phone. Cousins is currently in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama.

Cousins, 27, could be seeking a big short-term deal from Los Angeles to potentially team up with LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard. A short-term deal at a big level could allow Cousins to get paid while still being able to prove himself moving forward. Cousins could also end up staying put in New Orleans if the Pelicans are willing to offer him what he wants.

More NBA teams could still get involved here, too. Stay tuned.
