DeMarcus Cousins is no longer a member of the Sacramento Kings, but the NBA star still feels a deep connection to the area.

That area is suffering from a tragedy. A young, unarmed black man was fatally shot by police while in a backyard.

Stephon Clark, a 22-year-old South Sacramento native, was killed while holding a cellphone in his grandmother's backyard.

Sacramento has broken out in protests against the tragedy. The Kings game on Thursday night had almost no fans due to protests taking place outside the arena.

Cousins has reportedly reached out to the family of Clark. He's offered to pay for the funeral expenses.

Jason Jones first reported the news.

Cousins is known for being one of the most-charitable stars in the NBA.

Good for Boogie.
