Denver Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware Announces Retirement

After a decorated 12-year stint with the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos, DeMarcus Ware is calling it a career.

The 34-year-old outside linebacker announced his retirement on Twitter this afternoon. He was limited to 10 games in 2016 due to a fractured elbow and a back injury.

In his statement, Ware made clear he had opportunities to suit up somewhere in 2017, but he chose to step away.

"Tempting opportunities still present themselves for me to play and I feel better than I have in years. However, long term health and quality of life outweigh the spark and passion to play that I once had."

One thing is certain: Ware is a lock to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He could easily get in on the first ballot.

For his career, Ware played in 178 games and recorded 138.5 sacks. He recorded 20 sacks for the Cowboys in 2008 and 19.5 for Dallas three years later.
