NBA champion and former NY Knicks head coach Derek Fisher is back in the coaching ranks.
According to ESPN basketball insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Fisher has been hired as head coach of the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks.
Under the tutelage of Phil Jackson, Fisher helped the LA Lakers win five NBA titles in two stints with the team.
When Jackson was hired by the Knicks, the former Lakers and Bulls coach called upon Fisher to be his head coach.
Fisher served as head coach of the Knicks from 2014 to 2016, during which he went 40-96 before being fired in the middle of the 2015-16 season.
The Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA have hired Derek Fisher as head coach, league sources tell ESPN. News conference is set for Friday.

The Sparks finished 19-15 last season under Brian Agler.
The 60-year-old Agler resigned last Friday, prompting what the team announced at the time as a “comprehensive search” for a successor.

Agler had previously led the Sparks a WNBA championship in 2016.
