The Detroit Pistons have made a head coaching hire. It's a good one.
ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the franchise has hired former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey.
Casey, 61, was one of a couple of top-tier candidates for the Pistons' job. Michigan head coach John Beilein was another one.
The former Raptors coach was fired after a disappointing showing in the playoffs this past season. Toronto was the No. 1 seed in the East, but was swept by Cleveland in the second round.
Casey has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal with Detroit.
Wojnarowski broke the news.
"Dwane Casey has reached an agreement on a 5-year deal to become the next coach of the Detroit Pistons, league sources tell ESPN," he reports.
This is a nice hire for Detroit. Casey is 373-307 as a head coach. He led Toronto to three straight 50-plus win seasons before getting fired after the 2017-18 season.
