WNBA Superstar Left Playoff Game With Freak Knee Injury

Elena Delle Donne suffers injury during WNBA playoff game.

Elena Delle Donne is one of the WNBA's top players, which makes the injury she suffered late in tonight's playoff game even more brutal.

Delle Donne's Washington Mystics led the Atlanta Dream 70-68 in the fourth quarter of tonight's semifinal match-up.

The 2015 league MVP, and five-time All-Star, was the focal point of that lead. She scored 27 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, and had six assists in the game.

With just over three-minutes left in the game, Delle Donne went to drive, and her knee buckled, causing her to lose control and go down on the baseline. She had to be helped off the court by teammates, and did not return to the game.

To make matters worse, the Dream took advantage of her absence, and finished the final three minutes with a 10-5 run. Atlanta secured a 78-75 win to even the series 1-1.

We don't have an update on Delle Donne's status just yet. She is one of the WNBA's most talented players and losing her may very well swing the series, with the season in the balance, away from Washington.

She finished with 32 points and 13 rebounds in Game 1 of the series, an 87-84 Mystics win on the road.

The series heads to Washington with things knotted at 1-1 on Friday at 8:00 p.m. WNBA semifinal series are best of five.

Update: Delle Donne gave a somewhat-optimistic update after the game.

Hopefully she can make a quick recovery after what looked like a rough injury.
