ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit Was "Shocked" By This On Saturday

James Franklin's decision to run the ball with his tailback on a 4th and 5 at the end of Penn State's game against Ohio State drew criticism from many.

The Nittany Lions' head coach admitted after the game that he made a mistake with the play call and that he should've called something else.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit reacted to the play call in real time, as he was calling the game for ABC.

The analyst was "shocked."

"I'm completely shocked by that last call," Herbstreit said on ABC. "Completely shocked. Your quarterback has a career night. His ability to run and throw, they’re in man to man, he’s been taking off and improvising all night whether he runs for the first down or buys time to get a receiver to separate … but instead, the handoff to Sanders."

It was certainly a puzzling call.

The loss was Penn State's first of the season, while Ohio State remained unbeaten.

The Buckeyes move forward as the Big Ten's College Football Playoff frontrunner.
