There are many marquee matchups on this weekend’s slate of games for college football, but most eyes will gravitate toward the SEC clash between No. 12 LSU and No. 7 Auburn.
With both teams searching for a signature victory early in the season, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit gave a brief preview for Saturday’s showdown. During his time on The Paul Finebaum Show, he offered some praise toward LSU’s quarterback.
“One of my favorite games every year, since I was a little kid,” Herbstreit said Tuesday. “The LSU-Auburn game has alway been a hard-hitting, emotional game. Lots of great athletes and speed and this year is no different. I think (LSU quarterback) Joe Burrow is going to prove to be one of the best quarterbacks they’ve had since maybe 2010 or 2011.
“It’s been awhile since they’ve had a guy this capable. He can run, he can throw and has kind of been a steady hand for them. But let’s be honest, this will be his first real test in a hostile environment. I’m anxious to see how he does and if LSU has enough offense to pull off an upset. I think it’ll be tough to beat Auburn, especially at Jordan-Hare.”
Clearly, Herbstreit thinks both SEC powerhouses will have an extremely tough task ahead of them.
Last season, LSU stormed back in the fourth quarter to shock Auburn. Now, Jarrett Stidham and the rest of Gus Malzahn’s offense will have their chance for redemption.
Auburn and LSU are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be available on CBS.
