The 2018 college football season is approaching quickly. Spring games are in full swing and before you know it, the summer and preseason camps will be here.
Who do you like as a contender this season? Who do you like as a “sleeper” contender? Lee Corso has made his picks in the SEC.
The ESPN college football analyst said in a recent radio interview that he likes a certain SEC team as his “sleeper” pick for the fall. They’re not a big “sleeper” in the eyes of the public, but Corso still likes them and qualifies them as one.
Corso has Auburn as his preseason “sleeper” pick in the SEC. He very much sees them contending atop the league with Alabama and Georgia.
The ESPN college football analyst made his picks during an interview with WNSP in Mobile, Ala. last week.
“I think Auburn is the sleeper team,” Corso said. “They had a hell of a record last year. They were a good football team. The thing that happened to Coach [Gus] Malzahn is he lost a big game against Central Florida. That took the luster off of his season. He had a great season. He beat both Georgia and Alabama, when they were No. 1 in the nation, and I think people forget that.
“I think Auburn’s problem is that they lost the last game to Central Florida and everybody remembers that. I think it’s Auburn, Georgia and Alabama. Those three teams are the top teams.”
Auburn is a preseason top 10 team for most, so they’re not a big “sleeper.” Still, the Tigers are not getting as much preseason hype as Alabama and Georgia.
Clearly, Corso feels they deserve to be getting more love. He likes them to contend in the SEC this fall.
