A former standout SEC running back will be searching for a new NFL team. He's been waived.
The Indianapolis Colts announced this morning that they have waived former Florida running back Matt Jones. He had been with the team for one season. Jones was one of six players waived.
"The Indianapolis Colts today waived linebacker Jermaine Grace, running back Matt Jones, wide receiver Justice Liggins, nose tackle Joey Mbu, defensive end Arthur Miley and linebacker Darnell Sankey. The team also waived-injured defensive tackle Johnathan Calvin. If Calvin clears waivers, he will revert to the Colts Injured Reserve List.
Jones, 6-2, 239 pounds, has played in 25 career games (seven starts) and has totaled 248 carries for 964 yards and six touchdowns in his time with the Colts (2017) and Washington Redskins (2015-16). He has also caught 27 passes for 377 yards and one touchdown. Jones spent time on Indianapolis’ active roster and practice squad in 2017. He saw action in five games and compiled five carries for 14 yards."

Jones was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He played at Florida for three seasons.
The running back left the Gators for the NFL after his junior season. He was a third-round pick by the Washington Redskins in the 2015 NFL Draft.
