The games have been postponed until next weekend.
The Georgia High School Association has canceled all of today’s scheduled football state championship games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga due to inclement weather and unsafe road conditions.

The games will instead be played next weekend, though unfortunately not at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
According to AJC.com, six of the eight total championship games have been postponed, and those six matchups will subsequently take place at the schools of the higher-seeded teams.
It’s a tough break for those kids, as they were probably pretty pumped to play in the new stadium, and parents, players and fans alike were not happy with the news. Apparently some had already arrived in Atlanta and had to turn back.
If this would have been an sec game or falcons games would it have been canceled for fan safety? This cancelation is about money, laziness, and lack of logistical backup or planning. Sad day for the GHSA. Especially after that brutal call yesterday.

Teams and fans were already there! Playing the game would have been the smart thing to do. Canceling the games just sent the teams and fans back out on those same roads to travel home.

See a complete front office firing coming after this- totally unacceptable. The weather patterns were evident 5 days ago and You could’ve made different arrangements. These kids have been cheated by your lack of planning and leadership !

Are you guys not aware that the sun is out and roads are just fine. Please give a better excuse then safety. We drove up to the stadium at 7:30 am this morning just fine. The alternative is to play the games tomorrow, yes Sunday, in the benz. It just doesn't add up

Hopefully the games really did warrant postponements, otherwise it’s not a great look.
