Giants Update Status of Defensive End Olivier Vernon

Olivier Vernon kneels during national anthem.

After failing to generate any pressure on the quarterback in Week 1, it became very obvious that the Giants desperately need Olivier Vernon on their defensive line.

Unfortunately, New York will have to withstand another weekend without one of their impact defenders. Due to a sprained ankle, Vernon will be inactive for the second straight game.

Giants reporter Jordan Raanan revealed the details, as Connor Barwin and Lorenzo Carter will receive Vernon's snaps.

Without Vernon, the G-Men only had one sack against Jacksonville's offense.

In his first two years in New York, Vernon averaged 7.5 sacks per season. Considering that Jason Pierre-Paul now resides in Tampa Bay, the Giants will need another pass rusher to produce.

The Giants and Cowboys will battle on NBC's Sunday Night Football, as they both search for their first victory of the 2018 regular season. A key divisional win would be huge for both teams this early in the season.
