Golfing Father Records "Final" Video For His Kids During Ballistic Missile False Alarm
One man in Hawaii was ready to die today - golfing.
Saturday morning, Hawaiians got quite a scare when an emergency alert was sent out, telling everyone in the state to "seek shelter" due to a ballistic missile threat. Over a half hour later, a second alert was released, calling the first a false alarm.
It's hard to fathom just how it all happened. According to a Hawaii admin, it was one person who accidentally sent it out:
Hawaii Emergency Management Agency Administrator Vern Miyagi said at a press conference with the governor Saturday afternoon that a single individual sent out the alert by mistake. The individual went so far as to click through a second message, intended as a safeguard, that asked whether the alert should go out.
While most panicked, one man appears to have stayed calm. Mark Gardner, who was out golfing at the time of the alert, pulled out his cell phone and recorded one last video for his children. His daughter, Alohi, posted it on Twitter. It's gone viral.
"If you're watching this video, that means I didn't make it because of the missile that's coming towards Hawaii.
I just parred the last hole, and I just hit the sniznit out of my last ball. I love you all, but I'm playing golf. It's the last thing I'm going to do."
His daughter Alohi provided more information on Twitter about her father.
"His name is Mark Gardner. He’s a high school math teacher. He absolutely loves golfing. He hadn’t received the alert on his phone by the time we called him. When we talked on the phone, he sounded calm, and tried to make myself and my family feel that everything will be okay, and that he loved us. And that video was just his way of lightening the mood like he always does."

Luckily for Gardner and everyone else in the state, it wound up being a false alarm. He'll have to figure out another excuse to die on the golf course.
