The NFL community got some tough news Friday night. The Houston Texans have announced that owner Bob McNair has passed away. McNair was 80 years old.

McNair has owned the team since its inception back in 1999. He'd also been a Houston resident since 1960.

The Texans announced the news on Twitter. They noted that McNair died with his wife by his side.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce Houston Texans Founder, Senior Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and philanthropist, Robert C. McNair passed away peacefully in Houston today with his loving wife, Janice, and his family by his side."

The team also released statements from the president, the general manager and the head coach.

Our thoughts and prayers are with McNair's family and friends.
