Washington Redskins rookie running back Derrius Guice went down in tonight's preseason opener with an apparent knee injury. He was checked out by trainers but returned to the sideline.

The Redskins are making sure their second-round pick didn't suffer any major damage though. They are sending him for further tests.

Guice will undergo an MRI tomorrow, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted a short time ago.

Before leaving the game, Guice carried six times for 19 yards. He had a 34-yard run called back by a holding penalty. Even though it didn't count, the run looked impressive.

The Redkins will be holding their breath that Guice's MRI comes back clean. The rookie is expected to play a major role for the team right away.

Guice was regarded as a first-round pick after leaving LSU, but character concerns dropped him to the early second round where Washington scooped him up.
