Tonight is the 2018 MLB Home Run Derby from Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Chicago Cubs star Javier Baez is one of the players taking part in the event.
This is Baez's first Home Run Derby, and he's participating alongside teammate Kyle Schwarber. They are the first set of teammates to compete in the Derby since their fellow Cubs Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant did so in 2015.
This is a big summer for Baez. In addition to participating in the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game, he just became a dad.
The 25-year-old infielder and his fiancee Irmarie Marquez welcomed a baby boy in late June.
Baez and Marquez have known each other since they were kids and have been together for a long time.
They recently got engaged in April and will reportedly wed in December.
Here are some more photos of the couple:
Wouldn't it be something if Baez brought home the Home Run Derby trophy as a gift to his newborn son?
The 2018 Home Run Derby starts tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
