James Harden Comments On What Carmelo Would Bring To The Rockets

carmelo anthony could join lebron on the lakers

Pretty much everyone is anticipating Carmelo Anthony will join the Houston Rockets. There is still some red tape to clear, but Melo to H-Town seems like a matter of when, not if.

Once Anthony clears waivers from the Atlanta Hawks--who acquired him in a salary dump trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder--he is free to sign with anyone. Houston has been reported as the most likely option.

Carmelo is on the down side of his career, and there are legitimate questions about just what he can bring to a team. He's never been a strong defender, and he can't shoulder the scoring load the way he did in his prime.

However, Rockets star James Harden is bullish on Anthony's impact. When asked today what the 34-year-old forward brings to the table, Harden said Anthony still has "a lot more to go."

Anthony would probably best serve a team in a scoring role off the bench, but apparently he still wants to start. It is worth monitoring how Houston would deploy him and if he's willing to adapt.

Assuming Houston does land Anthony, he will most likely be used as a catch-and-shoot threat, spotting up for three-pointers off the penetration of Harden and Chris Paul.

Anthony will likely be used as a power forward too, which would enable Houston to use him as the screener in pick-and-pop situations as well.
