New rumors are swirling about the relationship between Minnesota Timberwolves' stars Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns, now that the former player has reportedly requested a trade out of the organization.

The Athletic reported earlier today that Butler had requested to be traded during a meeting with the front office. ESPN has since confirmed that Butler has three preferred trade destinations.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jimmy Butler is requesting a trade, and his three preferred destinations are the Brooklyn Nets, LA Clippers and New York Knicks, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Butler wants a trade to a team that plans to sign him to a five-year, maximum contract that could be worth $190 million in the summer, and his list could expand based upon the Timberwolves' and rival teams' willingness to negotiate a trade for him, league sources said.

The specific reason for Butler's request to be traded are unclear. However, rumors are swirling about the relationship between Towns and Butler.

There are conflicting reports about Butler and Towns and what might be going on. However, it's certainly causing a stir on social media.

Towns was rumored to have broken up with his girlfriend earlier this year.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is now reporting that Butler has the Clippers as his No. 1 destination. "Minnesota's Jimmy Butler is most determined to find a way to the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources tell ESPN. The appeal of partnering with a second star - the Clippers have two max contract slots available in summer free agency - is an intriguing scenario for him," he reports.
