Is Nebraska A Potential Transfer Destination For Ohio State 4-Star QB Joe Burrow?

Joe Burrow is a quarterback at Ohio State. For now.

The former four-star recruit admitted at the end of the 2017 season that he was considering a transfer. Ultimately, Burrow opted to stay put - for the spring, at least.

"I was convinced that it was going to be an open competition and that’s why I wanted to stay and give it my best shot. They said they’ll make a decision soon. We’ll see," he told reporters at Ohio State's pro day.

The situation is a simple one: If Burrow wins the starting quarterback job, he'll obviously stay; if Burrow loses the starting quarterback job, he's going to transfer.

Burrow, one way or another, is going to be playing quarterback for a college football program in 2018. Whether or not that program is Ohio State remains to be seen.

Urban Meyer has said that he knows a decision likely needs to be made at some point in the near future. He says he owes Burrow and the other quarterbacks some clarity.

If Burrow does lose the job to Dwayne Haskins (the favorite, according to some), where would he transfer?

A rival Big Ten school is being mentioned by some as a potential destination. Nebraska, now led by Scott Frost, is looking to add a quarterback or two to its depth chart. Burrow, who will have immediate eligibility, could step in right away and start for the Huskers in 2018 and '19.

Burrow's dad, Jimmy, played for the Huskers. So did two of his brothers in Jamie and Dan.

From the Lincoln Star-Journal:

It's conceivable that Frost, the first-year Husker head coach, may consider a grad transfer QB. He has said his ideal quarterback room has five scholarship players. He currently has three scholarship QBs eligible to play in 2018: sophomore Patrick O'Brien, redshirt freshman Tristan Gebbia and true freshman Adrian Martinez.

Now, Nebraska is on Ohio State's 2018 schedule. A school will often prohibit a player from transferring to a program that it's set to face that season. So, it's possible that Ohio State could block Burrow from going to Nebraska, if it comes to that.

Still, it's definitely a situation worth monitoring. Stay tuned.
