2 NBA Teams Are Reportedly Concerned About Trading For Kawhi Leonard
We're a couple of days into Kawhi Leonard Trade Watch. Here's the latest on the San Antonio Spurs' potential trade involving their All-NBA forward, who reportedly requested to be moved at the end of last week.
Leonard, arguably the best defender in the league and a former NBA Finals MVP, obviously has a lot of teams interested in trading for him. His preferred destination, though, is Los Angeles. Leonard is a California native and is reportedly very interested in returning to L.A.
The two Los Angeles teams, however, are reportedly concerned about him. There are still serious questions about Leonard's injury.
The Spurs' star missed basically the entire 2017-18 season. It's still unclear what his status is.
The Los Angeles Times reports that both the Lakers and the Clippers have not spoken to the Spurs about a potential trade. Both Los Angeles teams are concerned about his health status.
"Neither the Lakers nor Clippers have had trade discussions with the Spurs, as both teams have concerns about the severity of Leonard’s injury. He spent several months away from the team while rehabbing, which led to public barbs from Spurs coach Gregg Popovich about Leonard’s absence — an unusual move for the Spurs," the Times reports.
Having questions about Leonard's health status is fair, but it still seems doubtful that either the Lakers or the Clippers would pass on a possible trade if the Spurs indeed make him available to them.
An Eastern Conference team is currently listed as the favorite to land Leonard. The Boston Celtics have the best odds of trading for Leonard, per the sportsbooks.
With the NBA Draft approaching on Thursday, trade talks surrounding Leonard are likely going to heat up. Several teams have high draft picks they might be willing to move for him.
