Kirk Herbstreit Reacts To His New Gig At ESPN

ESPN announced some major Kirk Herbstreit news today. The popular college football analyst has a new gig.

For the first time ever, Herbstreit will be a part of ESPN's NFL Draft coverage. He'll be covering the event live from Arlington, Texas.

Herbstreit is replacing Jon Gruden's role. He'll only be doing it for Round 1.

The college football analyst will be on set with Trey Wingo, draft analyst Mel Kiper and NFL analyst Louis Riddick.

Herbie is excited. He was approached for the role by Lee Fitting, ESPN vice president, college sports, who he's worked with a lot on College GameDay.

“After we talked about my role, I was pumped up,” Herbstreit told the AP. “I’m going to stay in my lane and let Mel and Louis and Trey kind of say, ‘Hey, the Broncos really need to do this.’ I’ll kind of be more of breaking down some of the prospects from a college football perspective. Once they told me I was doing that and not projecting … I’m not into that at all.”

ESPN is thrilled to have Herbstreit a part of the telecast.

“Kirk is the preeminent college football analyst and he will be a great addition to our NFL Draft main set on opening night,” said Seth Markman, ESPN senior coordinating producer, NFL studio shows. “ESPN’s combined expertise in college football and the NFL is unmatched and we were particularly drawn to Kirk’s insight into this year’s highly-touted quarterback class as an opportunity to elevate our coverage.”

The NFL Draft will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas from April 26 to April 28. Round 1 will be that Thursday, April 26.
