We never got the Kobe Bryant-LeBron James NBA Finals matchup everyone was hoping for, but we are now getting the former Cleveland Cavaliers star joining the former Los Angeles Lakers' star's franchise. James, of course, announced on Sunday night that he was joining the Lakers.
Some think that Kobe probably has mixed thoughts about LeBron joining the Lakers. He obviously loves the franchise, but it's possible his place with the fans could be changed depending on what happens with LeBron.
That doesn't appear to be the case, though.
Kobe sent a text message to ESPN NBA insider Ramona Shelburne shortly after LeBron committed to the Lakers.
Bryant later took to Twitter to welcome LeBron to L.A.
"Welcome to the family, King James," Kobe Bryant tweeted. "#Lakers4Life #Striveforgreatness @JeanieBuss @MagicJohnson and RP (Rob Pelinka) well done."
Well done, indeed. The Lakers are in tremendous shape moving forward.
Los Angeles now has LeBron, cap space and a young core of players to work with. It remains unclear if the Lakers will be making a trade for Kawhi Leonard, but the Spurs' star reportedly is still intent on coming to L.A. at some point. We might be seeing Kobe Bryant sitting courtside a lot next year.
