The Lakers Are Meeting With Another Top NBA Free Agent Today

LeBron James remains target No. 1 for the Lakers this summer, but Los Angeles has a lot of cap space. LeBron is not the only top free agent the franchise is pursuing. In fact, Magic Johnson and Co. have a meeting today with one of the other top players in the class.

Clint Capela is arguably the most-coveted big man on the market. The Houston Rockets' center is a restricted free agent, but it's unclear if the franchise will match any offer he gets.

The Lakers are making a run at Capela.

NBA insider David Aldridge is reporting that the Lakers have a meeting scheduled with the 24-year-old big man.

"Lakers, working multiple scenarios, will meet this afternoon with Rockets RFA Clint Capela, per league source," he tweeted.

Landing Capela would be a major coup for the Lakers. Capela is one of the most-promising young bigs in the league. The rim-runner averaged nearly 14 points and 11 rebounds a game last season. He was a huge aspect of Houston's Western Conference Finals run. The Rockets definitely want to keep him, but perhaps the Lakers will be able to offer him something that Houston feels it can't afford to match. It seems doubtful that the Rockets would be willing to let him go - especially to a team like the Lakers - but you never know. The Lakers aren't the only team Capela is meeting with today. The Rockets also have a meeting scheduled in Los Angeles.

Capela is the kind of shot-blocking, rim-running big man that someone like LeBron James could really like playing next to, too.

The Lakers are taking a lot of shots this free agency. They've yet to make one, but it's ridiculously early. Stay tuned.
