Larry Nassar Receives 40 To 175-Year Sentence
Larry Nassar received his sentence.
The former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State doctor who is accused of sexually abusing more than 100 received his sentence. Larry Nassar will spend the rest of his life in prison.
On Wednesday afternoon Honorable Judge Rosemarie Aquilina handed down a 40-year sentence to Nassar. The sentence also carries with it a maximum of 175 years.
When handing down the sentence, Judge Aquilina stated to Nassar, "I just signed your death warrant." She went on to say Nassar should never be able to walk outside of a prison for the rest of his life.
A four-day hearing for Larry Nassar began in Michigan earlier this week. At the hearing, many of those affected by Nassar's cruelty came forward to confront their abuser.
Nassar wrote a letter to Judge Aqulina earlier this week, pleading for a shorter sentence. In the letter he used the line, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned," which the judge used against him.
Nassar, 54, must serve a full federal term of 60 years as part of a child pornography case. He'll serve the rest of his life behind bars.
168 women gave victim statements against Nassar. Here's the moment of sentencing.
Judge Aquilina called for an investigation into USA Gymnastics for allowing this to happen. Michigan State is also under NCAA investigation for its alleged role in Nassar's sexual assault.
Good for the judge.
