There Are Conflicting Reports About When LeBron Will Announce His Decision

LeBron James announces his free agency decision in 2010.

We've entered another week of LeBron James Free Agency Watch. It's getting real, too, as James' deadline to opt into the final year of his Cavs' contract is approaching later this week. NBA free agency officially starts on Sunday at midnight.

Everyone, of course, is wondering who LeBron is going to sign with. Another important question: When is LeBron going to announce his decision?

There are conflicting ideas/reports when it comes to that topic.

NBA insider Chris Sheridan is reporting that James will be announcing his decision on July 6.

"Unless his mind is already made up, July 6 is the day "Decision III" will arrive," Sheridan tweeted.

ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst, meanwhile, believes that a decision from James will be announced before July 4. “Everybody will be on holiday on July 4, it will be over by then,” Windhorst said on a recent appearance on Zach Lowe's podcast. James has taken longer to announce his decision before, though. Marc Stein of the New York Times pointed this out today. "LeBron James has taken an average of 9.5 days to choose his next destination in his two previous July trips to the open market," Stein tweeted.

If James takes that long this time, that would put his decision coming at July 10 or so. We can't wait that long, though. A quick decision from James this time around would be appreciated.

New LeBron James free agency odds have been released, too. The Lakers remain the favorite to land him, but the Sixers' odds appear to be rising.

The latest odds for LeBron, via 5Dimes:

  • Lakers -140
