The Lakers currently have one star player. It’s a huge star player, of course. But it’s still just one star player.
You’re not winning anything in today’s NBA with just one star. At some point, another star is going to come to Los Angeles to join LeBron James.
Colin Cowherd discussed this possibility today. He brought up a surprising name: Ben Simmons.
Simmons, who’s set to play in his second NBA season, won’t be a free agent for a while, but Cowherd believes there are signs indicating that he might be interested in leaving the Sixers for the Lakers at some point in the future.

Ben Simmons to the Lakers? @ColinCowherd has a theory.

Simmons is set to become a restricted free agent in 2020. So, we’re a long way off from Simmons-to-the-Lakers actually being a possibility.
It’s not crazy to suggest that Simmons will eventually end up on the Lakers – a ton of NBA stars have left their initial teams to play in Los Angeles at some point, after all – but it’s still a pretty big pipe dream right now.
LeBron and Simmons aren’t even that great of an on-court fit right now. Simmons hasn’t proven to be capable of playing off the ball and LeBron is one of the most ball-dominant players in the league.
