LeBron James Personally Recruited This NBA Free Agent To The Lakers

LeBron James signs with the Lakers.

The Lakers have added quite the cast of characters in NBA free agency following the commitment of LeBron James, signing guys like Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee to one-year contracts.

While those signings have been mocked by some, the Lakers reportedly did them with the approval of LeBron, and with at least one of those players, James himself personally recruited him to sign in Los Angeles.

Lance Stephenson, who signed a one-year contract worth a little more than $4 million, received a phone call from LeBron, telling him to come to the Lakers.

"I want you," James told Stephenson over the phone.

Pacers GM Kevin Pritchard recounted the conversation during a recent press conference, talking about the loss of Stephenson.

"I think when LeBron calls you up and says, ‘I want you,’ it’s hard for him to turn that down," Pritchard said, via the New York Post.

Stephenson, 27, averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds a game in Indiana last season. He averaged 10.4 points a game in the Pacers' first-round playoff loss to Cleveland.

The charismatic forward has been one of LeBron's biggest antagonists over the years, but they'll now be teammates on the Lakers. And that's apparently just what LeBron wanted.
