LeBron James announced his NBA free agency decision earlier this month, leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Los Angeles Lakers. He signed a four-year, $153 million contract with the Lakers (the contract includes a player opt-out after three years).

There were countless of rumors about LeBron's decision in the months leading up to free agency, but in the end, it was a rather uneventful decision. LeBron reportedly only met with one NBA team (Magic Johnson at his Los Angeles home) and his decision was announced with a simple tweet from his agency.

Today, at the unveiling of his new "I Promise School" in Akron, Ohio, LeBron spoke at length about his free agency decision and what went into it.

LeBron revealed that he considered the following four teams:

  • Cavs
  • Lakers
  • Rockets
  • Sixers

LeBron said that, ultimately, his decision to sign with the Lakers came down to the fact that he felt it was the best next step for his career. He feels like it could take some time with Los Angeles, but the Lakers will eventually have a championship pedigree.

LeBron was linked to the Lakers, Cavs, Sixers and Rockets throughout the 2017-18 NBA season, but many felt it was going to come down to Los Angeles and Cleveland.
