ESPN’s College GameDay goes to every corner of the United States looking for the best fan bases in college football, but there’s one school that Lee Corso keeps a little nearer and dearer to his heart.
Corso told AL.com that through his travels with ESPN’s signature program he’s decided that Oregon is his the best campus in all of college football and the school also is home to the best mascot.
Q. Of all the places you have been with ESPN GameDay, which is your favorite campus?
Corso: My favorite is Oregon. The Ducks. My favorite mascot is the Duck. He’s really funny. I enjoy being with the Duck when I go out there. The show is on at 6 a.m. pacific in the morning. That means they are there all night. The students are there waiting for the show. They are tremendous fans. They have a great football program. Great atmosphere.
The 82-year-old played for Florida State and coached at Maryland, Navy, and Louisville. He was hired by the network back in 1987 to become an analyst for College GameDay.
Oregon is one of the schools that’s hosted College GameDay the most. The Ducks have hosted the show nine times, which is good for the 8th most out of all the programs in the country.
It’s probably unlikely that Oregon will host the show this season. The Ducks’ best chance is probably on Oct. 13 when it hosts Washington.
ESPN’s College GameDay has yet to announce its locations for the 2018 season. A Week 1 location could come out at some point in the next month or two.
