Lincoln Riley Reveals Why QB Kyler Murray Was Punished Today

Lincoln Riley speaks to media after Oklahoma's spring game.

Early Saturday morning it was reported that a star quarterback would be benched for some amount of time after he broke team rules. Oklahoma's Kyler Murray was punished for breaking the team's rules.

Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley made the decision to bench the No. 9 pick in this year's MLB draft. He didn't sit for long - entering the game after just one series on the bench.

So why was the star quarterback forced to sit out for a short amount of time? Riley announced after the team's blowout win over Baylor that Murray was late to practice.

According to OU Insider, Riley said practice began at 7:30 a.m. ET and Murray showed up "not very late" but late enough to warrant punishment.

No worries for Murray's Heisman campaign as the star quarterback still threw for over 430 yards and six touchdowns - on just 21 passes.

Oklahoma stayed undefeated on the season. Next up for the Sooners is a tough matchup against Texas. The Red River Rivalry is sure to produce fireworks.
