Longtime Assistant College Football Coach Bob Elliott Passes Away At 64

A veteran college football coach has died.

Bob Elliott, a longtime assistant coach, has passed away at the age of 64.

Elliott fought through a rash of health issues during the last 20 years of his life. According to the World-Herald Big Red, Elliott suffered through a rare form of blood cancer that left him needing a bone marrow transplant.

As a result of that transplant, Elliott needed a kidney transplant as well, which came from his sister.

Iowa State confirmed Elliott's death.

Elliott had 38 years of college coaching experience with stops at Iowa State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Iowa, where he coached while his father was the athletic director of the Hawkeyes.

He is survived by his wife, Joey, and their children, Grant and Jessica. Our thoughts are with Elliott's family during this time.
