Manny Machado is heading to the Dodgers, right? That is what the established conclusion has been since yesterday, when several MLB reporters confirmed that was the move.
Not so fast, though, says MLB Network Radio and TSN analyst Steve Phillips. Phillips is reporting this afternoon that "one or more" prospects the Dodgers included in the deal have problems with their physicals.
Often times, the physicals that are taken before trade are just a formality. Sometimes, however, a player fails them, voiding the deal.
If Phillips is correct, it doesn't mean Machado won't wind up in Los Angeles, but it does potentially allow for another team to swoop in.
The exact haul of prospects the Dodgers agreed to send to Baltimore hasn't been specified, but young outfielder Yusniel Diaz is in the deal, according to Jon Heyman.
It is unclear if Diaz or some of the other players on LA's end are the prospects Phillips is referring to here.
Stay tuned in case this gets crazy.
