Manny Machado is the biggest piece available on the MLB's trade market this summer. The trade deadline is approaching quickly and the All-Star shortstop continues to be mentioned as an option for contending teams looking for an upgrade.
So far, the Orioles have been linked to the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Brewers and Dodgers, among others. Almost every contending team in need of an upgrade in the infield has been mentioned as a possible option for Baltimore.
Trade talks are reportedly progressing and it appears that only three teams are serious contenders to land Machado at this point.
ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney is reporting that three teams are currently waiting on the call from the Orioles.
Those three teams: Dodgers, Brewers, Phillies.
"Source indicated last Sunday his sense was that the Orioles were at the 35-yard-line and driving in the Machado trade conversations. Same source this Sunday: '10-yard-line. PHI, Brewers, Dodgers waiting for the goal line call. As mentioned yesterday, Orioles have narrowed focus," he reports.
Machado is set to be a free agent after the season. Any team that trades for him will obviously hope to re-sign him, but it's far from a guarantee. Of the three teams mentioned above, either the Dodgers or the Phillies likely have the best odds to hold onto him.
