A year ago, the Philadelphia 76ers made Markelle Fultz the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft. Roughly 12 months later, trade rumors are swirling for the rookie point guard.

Earlier tonight, it was reported that Philadelphia had considered packaging Fultz with another draft pick to potentially move up in the draft. That didn't happen, as the Sixers opted to stay put.

However, trade speculation for Fultz is not going away. It doesn't help that Philadelphia just drafted a player who plays an extremely similar game.

The Sixers drafted former Wichita State standout guard Landry Shamet late in the first round. Was Fultz just drafted over? Probably not. But Shamet is a player who will compete for the same playing time that Fultz is battling for.

Twitter is rampant with Fultz trade talk now.

Shamet, 21, was one of the best players in college basketball last season. The former Wichita State guard averaged 14.9 points, 5.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds a game for the Shockers.

Fultz' status with Philadelphia is certainly going to be interesting to follow this offseason. Philadelphia remains a potential contender for Kawhi Leonard. A trade with San Antonio could involve the former No. 1 overall pick.
