The Big 12 produced the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner, as former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield took home the prestigious award. The league might win it again in 2018.
NFL.com has written up the 18 leading Heisman Trophy candidates in 2018. A Big 12 quarterback comes in at No. 1 on the list.
West Virginia’s Will Grier is the leading Heisman Trophy contender, per NFL.com.
“With Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph cleared out of his path, Grier figures to be the face of the Big 12 this fall. He has a dynamic receiving threat in David Sills V, and the kind of coach in Dana Holgorsen who will air it out with the play calling. It’s been a long road back for Grier since a NCAA suspension at Florida, and subsequent transfer to WVU, froze his career for a season and a half. But he’s primed for a big finish and the WVU schedule includes two Power Five opponents in non-conference play (Tennessee, N.C. State),” NFL.com writes.
Grier should have a big 2018. He is doing pretty well off the field, too. He’s a married man.
Meet his wife, Jeanne Marie Grier.
The former Florida quarterback is married to Jeanne O’Neill Grier. She’s a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers cheerleader. The couple has one child together, a daughter.
The 2018 season can’t get here soon enough. West Virginia will open the year on a big stage, too. WVU is set to open its season on Sept. 1 against Tennessee.
