With Connor Cook out of the picture, Michigan State lost the program's winningest quarterback and all-time leading passer. However, the Spartans haven't expressed any concern over naming their next starting QB.
Though head coach Mark Dantonio isn't ready to reveal the position winner, he said today during Big 10 media conferences that senior Tyler O'Connor is currently in the lead for the job.

The fifth-year senior started and won the Ohio State game. Though his numbers weren't jaw-dropping - 7-of-12 passing for 89 yards and a touchdown and eight rushes for 25 yards - O'Connor showed that he can lead the offense against a major competitor.
Other possible fillers for the position aren't too far behind. Fourth-year junior Damion Terry comes in at No. 2 and has more experiencewith the position and the playbook. Redshirt freshman Brian Lewerke and midterm enrollee Messiah deWeaver are also contenders.
Dantonio hasn't given any indication that he will reveal the starting QB by any certain date.
The Spartans open the season with a Sept. 2 home night game against FCS Furman.
