The boyfriend of United States Winter Olympics star Mikaela Shiffrin has been sent home from the games. It's for disciplinary reasons.

Shiffrin, 22, is dating Mathieu Faivre. He's a 26-year-old skier from France.

The French skier had a disappointing showing in the the men's giant slalom competition. He finished in sixth place, with a couple of his French teammates finishing ahead of him. When asked about his showing, he said he didn't care about how his fellow French Olympians did.

Faivre said he was "disgusted with the result" and "I'm here to race for myself only," according to BBC.

David Chastan, the director for the French men's skiing program, confirmed that the skier had been sent home. It was for disciplinary reasons. He won't be competing in the alpine skiing team event on Saturday.

The French skier took to Facebook to address what happened. He apologized.

"Skiing is an individual sport that is practiced as a team. However, when we are in the starting gate, only our individual race and our own performance are important," Faivre wrote on Facebook. "So yes, when it came time to give my feelings on my race, 10 minutes after crossing the finish line, only my performance and failure were present."

Faivre and Shiffrin began dating last summer, according to US Weekly. “I think it’s probably the easiest that it could be because I’m gone so much anyway,” she said of their relationship. “Like, it doesn’t matter who I’m dating, I’m never gonna really see them. At least with him, we can work out together, we can ski together and kind of find ways to meet up.”

Shiffrin's Winter Olympics, meanwhile, are not over. She's pulled out of the downhill competition but will still go in the combined event. Her boyfriend will have to watch on TV, though.
