The mother of a college football star called into a radio show to defend her son after the hosts' called him "overrated."

Michigan football star Rashan Gary announced earlier this week his intentions to declare for the 2019 NFL Draft.

The former No. 1 overall recruit had a good career at Michigan, though some are apparently arguing that he underwhelmed.

Gary's mother is not here for that.

“When you say he ‘underwhelmed expectations,’ well maybe you wanted him to get 15-20 sacks,” she told the radio hosts. And if he was a rushing end, then he would have. But he wasn’t, that wasn’t his job, and as a mom, I know my son did his job, and I know he did his job well.”

She continued:

“Don Brown’s defense has an anchor end, which is Rashan, and a pass-rushing end, which is Chase (Winovich),” she explained. “Now, Chase is great…he gets to the quarterback…Rashan’s not a pass-rushing end, so for you to equate Chase with Rashan is kind of disheartening.”
