Nationals Reportedly Contacted About Another Major MLB Trade
The Nationals announced this morning that they will not be trading All-Star outfielder Bryce Harper, despite reports that he had been made available, but another major trade could reportedly be in the works ahead of the deadline.
Starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez is set to be a free agent this winter and he's someone that the Nationals could consider selling at the deadline.
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reports that one MLB contender is pursuing the left-handed pitcher ahead of the 4 p.m. deadline.
"Source: #Brewers pursuing #Nationals LHP Gio Gonzalez," he reports.
Gonzalez can be one of the most-frustrating starting pitchers in the league - he's extremely talented but often walks a lot of hitters and has a high pitch count - but he has postseason experience and can eat up innings in the regular season.
The Brewers are making a run at the playoffs and adding Gonzalez would bolster their rotation heading into the fall.
It seems unlikely, though, that the Nationals - who already lack depth in their rotation - would trade Gonzalez after deciding to hold onto Harper. Stephen Strasburg is currently injured and outside of Max Scherzer, no one in the Nats' rotation has been consistent.
The MLB trade deadline is set for 4 p.m. E.T. Stay tuned.
