The Nationals Are Reportedly Discussing A Major Trade

A view of the Nationals stands at a game.

The Nationals are arguably the most-fascinating team in the MLB when it comes to Tuesday's trade deadline, which is set for 4 p.m. E.T.

Washington is 6 games back in the National League East Division. The Nats are coming off a series against the Marlins in which they lost 2 of 4 games.

There's talk that the Nationals could be sellers ahead of Tuesday's deadline, with even All-Star Bryce Harper being mentioned as a possible trade piece.

The Nats, though, could also be buyers in a big way.

The Washington Post reports that Washington and Miami have had serious discussions about a trade for All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto.

"Nats and Marlins have talked extensively about Realmuto in recent days, according to multiple people familiar with the talks. So far, price remains too high. But if they’re going to sell some pieces, it’s clearly not as part of a wholesale tear down," Chelsea Janes reports.

The price for Realmuto is believed to be quite high. The Nationals would likely have to give up top prospect Victor Robles (a top five prospect in all of baseball) and maybe more to get the Marlins to do it.

The Nationals have almost 24 hours exactly to make a decision on their future. The trade deadline is set for 4 p.m. E.T. on Tuesday.
