Update 2: Nebraska now says the game is cancelled, and any further changes to the schedule will announced at a later date. This one is official from the school itself.

Earlier, FOX Sports added Nebraska vs. Akron to its bottom line - suggesting the game would be played at Sunday at 11:30 AM ET on Sunday. That does not appear to be happening.

"Nebraska’s game with Akron has been cancelled and the Huskers will open the 2018 against Colorado next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. Any adjustments to the 2018 football schedule will be announced at a later date. Ticket holders are encouraged to hold on to their tickets from tonight’s game."

Update: Nebraska's home opener against Akron has now been rescheduled for Sunday morning. The Cornhuskers and Zips will square off at 11:30 AM ET. It'll be broadcast on FS1.

Earlier: After a weather delay that lasted nearly three hours, the game between Nebraska and Akron has been cancelled. The Cornhuskers and Zips only got the opening kickoff in before lighting forced the two teams off the field.

At the moment, it's unclear if the two schools will try to make the game up. If they don't, it's possibly one less win Nebraska will have at the end of the year when it comes time to decide whether they're bowl eligible.

Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald noted that playing the game Sunday seems to have been considered. But it doesn't look like that's going to happen, given the terminology being used.

The Scott Frost era will have to wait another week, unfortunately.

Nebraska's 2018 season will now open against Colorado next Saturday. The Buffaloes will be coming off a win against rival Colorado State.

We'll keep you updated on the status of the game and whether it'll be made up at any point this season.
