Brandon Reilly and Nate Gerry, Nebraska players suspended at the start of the season, will not take the field for the season opener against Fresno State.
Head coach Mike Riley announced their suspensions after Thursday’s practice. Reportedly, both Nebraska players suspended violated team rules. However, Riley remained unspecific with which rules the players violated, and he refused to elaborate.
These Nebraska suspensions leave gaping holes to fill. Reilly caught 40 passes for 754 yards last season and was one of quarterback Tommy Armstrong’s top targets. Gerry, a two-year starter on defense, made 79 tackles and intercepted four passes last season, both team highs.
Both players will return for NU’s second game against Wyoming.
