Earlier Thursday morning, New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon announced his plans to step away from football to focus on his mental health. Not long after, reports suggested the star receiver was facing an indefinite suspension from the NFL for another violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

On Thursday afternoon, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport revealed Gordon has been placed on the Reserve/Commissioner Suspended list with an indefinite suspension.

The NFL released a statement on the suspension: "Effective today, Josh Gordon has been returned to the Reserve/Commissioner Suspended list indefinitely for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse."

Gordon run in the NFL may have come to an end with the latest incident. The Patriots, meanwhile, released a statement saying the support the wide receiver as he focuses on his health.

The wide receiver had caught 40 passes for 720 yards and 3 touchdowns during his time with the Patriots.
