Pacers Reportedly Turned Down Celtics Draft Night Offer For Paul George

Most thought Paul George would land in Boston. Instead, he's headed to Oklahoma City.

The NBA world was shocked Friday night to hear that Paul George, who made it clear he wouldn't re-sign with the Pacers after the 2017-2018 season, had been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Most believed that Boston - or maybe Cleveland - were more likely destinations.

Well, Boston tried.

According to ESPN's Jeff Goodman, Boston made a heck of an offer on the night of the NBA Draft. The Celtics reportedly offered three first round picks and two starters - including Jae Crowder.

Celtics offer on draft night for Paul George, per league source, was 3 first-round picks (not the Nets pick next year or the Lakers/Kings pick) and two starters (Crowder being one).

George was traded to OKC for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis.

Strange, to say the least.

Boston reportedly wanted to land Gordon Hayward in free agency and then trade for Paul George. Clearly, that is no longer possible.

The big question now, of course, is whether George will want to stay in Oklahoma City. Most believe George wants to end up playing for the Lakers. We'll see whether one season of playing with Russell Westbrook changes that.
