Patrick Reed posted a message on Instagram for his "family" and "friends" after his win at The Masters this weekend. Since his victory at Augusta, there has been some controversy surrounding the golf star. Several stories about his estranged relationship with his parents and sister have been going viral.
The young golfer posted a message for "TEAM REED."
"This is a dream come true. I can’t thank everyone enough. Family, friends, and fans- I couldn’t have done it without you all. This is what TEAM REED IS ABOUT!" he said.
Reed did not invite his parents to The Masters and he reportedly hasn't spoken to them in years. He hasn't talked about the specific reason for this, but reports suggest they did not approve of him getting married so young. Reed's wife, Justine, has then alleged that his parents did not treat him well growing up.
His sister addressed some of this in a former Facebook post.
"I have sat back and watched the numerous and disgusting accusation his wife, mother-in-law and everyone now associated as his family have made. Patrick is not the same person he used to be. This is not a brother anymore, but a selfish, horrible stranger and it's heartbreaking … It is devastating seeing my parents hurt and suffer from what is being posted about them," she wrote.
Patrick was asked about his family after his win at The Masters. He didn't want to talk about it.
"I'm just out here to play golf and try to win golf tournaments," he replied.
