Photo: Russell Wilson Heads To Spring Training With The Texas Rangers

Russell Wilson may have just won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks, but he hasn't totally shaken the baseball bug. Wilson, a former fourth round pick in the MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies, was snagged by the Texas Rangers in this December's Rule 5 draft, and it sounds like he'll spend at least a little bit of time at spring training. At the very least, he had time for a photo opp.

According to ESPN Dallas' Richard Durrett, the Rangers may have some off-field reasons for bringing Wilson to Arizona with them for a few weeks.

Texas paid $12,000 to pluck Wilson from the Colorado Rockies organization with the hopes that some of its young players could relate to him and see what it takes to be a successful pro athlete.

"Everything you see and read about him and seeing him play on Sundays, you hear about the work ethic, the person," Rangers assistant general manager A.J. Preller said in December. "I think that's going to be a positive message for all of our players in our system, our coaches, everybody to have somebody like that around."

Don't expect Wilson to take many swings or truck any catchers at the plate. I'm sure the Seahawks wouldn't have allowed this trip if there was any chance that their superstar quarterback could risk an injury.
