A Texas softball pitcher went viral on social media earlier this month for her exciting style of play. Now, she’s going viral again, only this time it’s for an unfortunate reason.
Meet Miranda Elish, the star pitcher for Texas’ softball team, which fell to Alabama in the Super Regionals on Saturday.
She dominated the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament, leading the Longhorns to victory.

Unfortunately, Elish was dealt a major blow against Alabama this weekend.
The star pitcher was drilled in the face by a throw from her own catcher. It was extremely scary.
Scary situation in Texas-Alabama softball game. Catcher's throw to second base hit Texas pitcher Miranda Elish in the face. She was down for several minutes and taken to a hospital. Reports say she is doing well and hospital trip was just a precaution. pic.twitter.com/ahYFLk0ULI

Elish ended up getting taken to the hospital, where she was able to recover. She was back cheering on her team a day later.

Elish is one of the most-exciting players in the sport and it’s disappointing that her season had to end with an unfortunate injury.

Elish, a transfer from Oregon, is just a junior, so hopefully we’ll see her back on the field smiling (and striking batters out) next spring.
The 2019 College World Series, meanwhile, begins on May 30 in Oklahoma City. It’ll be televised on ESPN.
