Here's what the quarterback's injured hand looks like.

Tom Brady played hurt today. The Patriots' quarterback revealed just how hurt he was after the win.

New England's 40-year-old quarterback played with an injured right hand in the AFC Championship Game win over the Jaguars. Brady collided with a teammate at practice earlier this week.

The details of the injury are pretty gruesome. His hand was reportedly cut and blood was "gushing" significantly.

Stitches were required. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed that Brady needed 12 stitches in the area around his thumb.

Both Brady and head coach Bill Belichick downplayed the significance of the injury throughout the week and after the game. Brady said he was fine and has played through much worse. Belichick was more direct.

"He's a tough guy, we all know that. But we're not talking about open heart surgery here," he told reporters.

While the injury might not have been that significant, it certainly doesn't look good. Photos of Brady's injured, unwrapped hand have surfaced. Check it out:

Here's a closer look. It's pretty gruesome:

Brady now has two weeks to further heal up. The Patriots will take on either the Eagles or the Vikings (it's looking like it'll be the Eagles) in the Super Bowl in Minneapolis.
