Report: A Bryce Harper Trade Was "Lined Up" On Monday Night

bryce harper hits a walkoff HR for the nationals

Bryce Harper is at the center of the MLB's trade deadline rumors today, as the Washington Nationals' All-Star outfielder has reportedly been made available by general manager Mike Rizzo, according to multiple reports.

MLB insiders are skeptical that Harper will actually be traded, but it seems like the Nationals are at least considering the idea of moving on from the All-Star outfielder, who is set to be a free agent this winter.

One report suggests that the Nationals have done more than just make Harper available, too.

Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports that one MLB team heard that the Nationals had a Bryce Harper trade "lined up," but the ownership pulled the plug.

"At least one team in touch with the Nationals heard the club had deals 'lined up' for multiple players, including Bryce Harper, but got the sense ownership pulled the plug late last night," he reports.

It always seemed unlikely that the Nationals' owners would sign off on a Bryce Harper trade. Even though it's likely that Harper won't be a National in 2019, Washington still seems interested in attempting to re-sign him. And trading him now would basically eliminate that possibility.

The MLB trade deadline is set for 4 p.m. E.T. Stay tuned.
