There is one name atop the wish list of Louisville's men's basketball program when it comes to its next head coach.

Chris Mack.

The Xavier head coach is target 1A for the Cardinals' program, which parted ways with interim head coach David Padgett earlier this week.

Mack is reportedly set to meet with Louisville this weekend.

According to one reporter, it's very close to being done.

Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio says Mack-to-Louisville is "close" to being complete.

Jon Rothstein, a college basketball insider for CBS Sports, says it would be a major surprise if Mack doesn't end up at Louisville.

“Chris Mack has told confidants now for a couple of years that Louisville is one of the jobs he’d be willing to leave Xavier for,” CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein said on Tiki and Tierney. “It has the resources, it’s in the ACC, and they play in an NBA arena. Another thing is Chris Mack’s wife’s family is from the Louisville area, and I am told that Louisville is likely to offer him a package that would start at $4 million annually, which would double his salary. He is clearly the frontrunner for that job. I feel like it’s only going to be major news if he doesn’t accept the job. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t (happen).”

This would be a huge hire for Louisville's program. Mack is one of the best in the country.

Stay tuned.
